Ray Anguiano for Atwood Restaurant, Chicago via Imbibe.
This earthy one is for you, Taurus (earth sign). Cynar contains 13 herbs, most notably artichoke, that give us this earthy flavor. For another Cynar cocktail, inspired by fellow Taurus and author Harper Lee, try a Boo Radley.
In shaker:
Gently muddle 4x mint leaves with 1/2 oz simple syrup
Add:
1/2 oz lemon juice
3/4 oz Cynar
1 1/2 oz Bourbon (Ray uses Buffalo Trace)
Add ice and shake for 10 -15 seconds.
Double strain to a rocks glass filled with crushed ice.
Garnish with mint sprig.
Thyme After Thyme
Misty Day Plant Potions tells us, “Taurus rules over the throat, thymus, neck, vocal cords, thyroid (and secondarily the metabolism), voice, and middle ear…specific remedy herbs for the Taurean are those which support the upper respiratory. The most pertinent of these where the respiratory system is concerned is thyme. It’s your thyme!
